Walking. 30 minutes a day. That's it. Please don't laugh that the word 'challenge' is associated with this level of activity.
I'm doing it, and it is making such a difference already. My thought patterns have become increasingly positive, my goals seems more attainable, my mood has improved, and I feel like a generally more sane person. Selah and I used to 'play' outside almost every day, but there is something different and energizing about getting moving!

On Friday I actually felt like jogging/walking/jogging/walking . I hoped that cars wouldn't be alarmed at the spectacle of a crazy curly-headed chubby lady running down the street with her stroller, and call the police after concluding that there was NO WAY I would be running unless there was an emergency of sorts.. But, I made it home without incident, and I felt so proud of myself.

A while ago, I wrote
this post about the fact that I was so ashamed of being overweight. I still am overweight, but I'm working on laying down the shame associated with it. Without the shame, I feel free to move forward, out of a place of hiding, and outside (where I can exercise!) and build other healthy habits.
Lots of love,
Lindsey
This is great! I started walking daily in December after a gestational diabetes scare, and it really is making me feel so much better about myself. I would always make comments about how I SHOULD be exercising, etc, but this was the motivation I needed to actually get up and do it! And I'm thrilled-my pregnancy weight gain is WAAAAY slower now (I gained 46 lbs w/ Elijah and am 35 wks now and have gained 28!) and I just FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. I'm a fan. I'll have to keep doing it somehow after this baby comes!
ReplyDeleteVery deep post. Good luck with the changes you want to make.

ReplyDeleteWow, I really needed to find you. I just arrived here at your blog & what is the first post I read?...this one about a challenge to exercise 30 minutes a day. So, I'm going to try...I should say I am going to start..but I'm scared to committing and then failing....So that's where I am....

Congratulations on your awesome challenge. We walk our dog every day for at least 30 min and it totally can change your mindset. Some days I totally detest it, but I notice how much better I feel if we're sick for example and head out. The fresh air always seems to help, even if the weather is only so-so.
ReplyDeleteThe first 10 days of establishing a routine are the hardest because you're going against your norm. Then you have to keep it going from 10-20 to fight the resistance of just wanting to forget about it. After that, your brain slowly starts to give in to the concept and by day 30, it should be established as a routine that your day would not be complete without.
I LOVE your blog! And I'm so up for the walking challenge, it's so hard to get the kids out of the house sometimes but it's so worth it!

Great job on the walking! Even though I don't always feel like getting a workout, I have NEVER regretted making the effort after I'm done! Sometimes just reminding myself how good I always feel after a walk is just enough to get me out the door. Good luck with your goal.
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping by from the blog hop. Now following on Bloglovin'.
